Several Southern California wildfires continue to burn as fire crews work to contain fast-growing flames that ignited over the weekend.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection sent in some of its emergency response forces to Riverside and San Bernardino counties to fight the wildfires that erupted Saturday and Sunday. Each county is undergoing several wildfires, both small and large, with the biggest threats coming from the Wolf Fire in Riverside County and the Lake Fire in San Bernardino County.

The Wolf Fire emerged just south of Banning, near Old Idyllwild Road and Wolfskill Truck Trail, around 3 p.m. on Sunday. As of Monday afternoon, the Wolf Fire had charred 1,400 acres and was 10% contained as of 1:40 p.m. Pacific time, according to an incident update.

Cal Fire said it has assigned 300 personnel, six fire crews, four helicopters and a number of other resources to tackle the Wolf Fire. The department reported there were evacuation orders and warnings in the areas surrounding the fire, which remain in place as of Monday afternoon.

The Lake Fire, the second biggest fire to emerge this weekend, popped up near Silverwood Lake around 4 p.m. Saturday. As of Monday morning, the Lake Fire had charred 485 acres and was 25% contained, according to an update on the Cal Fire website.

The department has assigned 525 personnel, 10 fire crew, three helicopters and a number of other resources to tackle the Lake Fire. Cal Fire also issued evacuation orders and warnings in the areas surrounding Lake Fire, but has already lifted the evacuation orders. That is because fire crews have stopped the forward rate of spread.

Fire crews have had more success extinguishing Southern california’ smaller wildfires in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, containing 70% of the Mindy Fire that emerged on Sunday in Riverside County and fully containing the Smiley Fire that emerged on Saturday in San Bernardino County, according to a list of fires from Cal Fire.

A few other smaller fires such as the Mandalay fire in Riverside County and the Cable Fire in San Bernardino remain burning, but evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted for both.
